timing belt cover gaskets

how do you change a timing belt cover gasket on a ford tauru 1997 do you just take off old one and replace with new or do you seal it with gasket glue

It has a timing chain cover, behind it is a gasket, remove timing chain cover, clean mounting surfaces, install new gasket, (I usaully add a little high temp gasket maker around coolant ports for added security), then reinstall timing chain cover.
