1997 Ford Taurus sho revving

I was told my car has a idle air control problem is there anyways to check this or clean it at home so I dont have to go to mechanic? When warm my 97 ford taurus sho v8 jumps from 700 rpn to 550 then back to 700 the lights on dash dim with this u can hear engine go down then rev up car never dies but once its warm it has a hard time starting back up im gonna be changing spark plugs tomorrow but I was also told about this idle air control problem plz help thanks for your time

You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.
