The struts don't hold up the weight of the car they just dampen the bumps and bounce. The coil springs hold up the weight of the car. If the body is rubbing the front tire you could have something bent or a broken coil spring?You will have to really look at the front end of the car and compare both sides of the car to see what looks different.

I checked it out it appears that some plastic piece connected to the drivers side coil spring is snapped approx how much will this repair cost

Where is that plastic piece do you have a picture etc?Where is it located?Is it the strut mount your talking about at the top of the strut and the coil spring?
