Hood latch won't release the hood how can you open it

Can you have someone push down on the hood while you pull the release. If that doesn't work you will need a long standard screwdriver and go from under the car or through the grill to look for and release the latch.

The cable is still connected to the plastic latch in the truck. So I reached up under the truck in front while my buddy watched for me until I could release the latch not easy.
