engine light flashs, stay on, and shake or hesitate looked in owner guide it said it could be the catalytic converter? could this be the problem? if it is how do i go by fixing the broblem?

it sounds like a missfire. this will effect the cat but plugs, coils are the most common failure. if you drive it the way it is, you will damage the converter.
