1997 Ford Mustang Rpm S Went Way Back Down Times Car Died Mechanice Replaced

The rpm's went way up and then back down a few times and then the car died. A mechanice replaced the rotor, distributor and distributor cap and plugs yesterday to fix the issue. The car rode fine for about 15 miles, the rpms went up and down and the car died again. What could it be?

If you have access to a scan tool i would look at the crank sensor and ignition module for faults when the car dies.
