1997 Ford F 150 Fan Clutch Working Properly There Loud Whooshing Sound That

How do i know if the fan clutch is or isn't working properly?
There is a loud whooshing sound that seems to go with acceleration-deceleration

ENGINE NOT RUNNING

INSURE THE MOUNTING BOLTS TO THE WATER PUMP FLANGE AND TO THE FAN ARE TIGHT

ATTEMPT TO GENTLY ROCK THE FAN 12 AND 6----THEN 3 AND 9 TOWARDS ENGINE AND RADIATOR (WOBBLE)

THERE SHOULD BE NO PLAY----ONLY "TURNING MOTION"

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NO DEBRIS HUNG UP IN AND AROUND THE RADIATOR (LIKE A CHUNK OF WAL-MART BAG)



CRANK UP AND ALLOW THE ENGINE TO GET TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE

AT IDLE, YOU WILL START HEARING AND SEEING THE FAN SPEED UP AND SLOW DOWN. THIS WILL HAPPEN OVER AND OVER, JUST A WILD GUESS, EVERY 30 SECONDS OR SO...........THIS IS A "GOOD FAN CLUTCH"

SOMETIMES AFTER-MARKET FANS, WITH MORE BLADES, MORE PITCH, OR FLEXIBLE BLADES WILL MAKE MORE RACKET THAN THE ORIGINAL
