My transmission cable keeps coming off transmission switch with ball that connects to switch. I am unable to switch gears. What can I do fix or replace?

Good afternoon.

The end has a rubber inside that should snap over the ball. Is it still there?

The lock will slide to lock it in.

Was there any previous work performed for this to be an issue?

Roy

Remove the transmission shift cable from the automatic transmission.
(1)Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the manual control lever.
(2)Depress the lock tabs to release the transmission shift cable and disconnect the transmission shift cable from the transmission shift cable bracket.

There is no rubber inside where ball went. Where is lock? Is the yellow part? I just purchased shift link bushings.

Yes, the lock is the yellow.

Which bushings? Can you post a picture of them?

The big orange bushing is what goes over the stud on the manual valve after you insert it in the cable. Use Vaseline for easier installation. It will be very tight to install.

The radius of bushing is bigger of that of cable whole on block I mean. Do I have to remove lock? Very stubborn to get off. Might break.

Yes, it is very fragile. You need to remove it.

Use a lot of lube installing the bushing.

I tried lubing, but no fit. There was was not any rubber bushing to begin with. The cable clip is suppose snap on ball of transmission sensor right? I cannot even get replacement cable locally. Maybe better luck just to pull part from salvage yard. Is there supposed to be rubber bushing or kit just rig connection?

I went to the salvage yard, and I pulled the same lock from a another vehicle. I noticed inside the lock with a whole is the whole was kind of worn out for the one that I had problems with compared to the one I pulled from the salvage yard. I just replaced it in the vehicle the cable now stays on the lever on the ball for the sensor. I hope this works. I listed pictures of bad and the I pulled at salvage yard.
