97 escort has a O2 bank 1 sensor 2 code P0141. This tells me it's the after cat sensor but a friend says he has never seen one of these go bad. The car sat for almost two years after being used as a push vehicle. Anyway, can the O2 sensor be taken out and cleaned? I took it to get smogged and am getting 3 flags: O2 bank 1 sensor 2, O2 bank 1 sensor 2 heater and cat. The smog shop said that I have to get at least one of the flags to go away before they can test the car. Can the sensor(s) be removed and cleaned then put back in?

NO, you cannot clean an 0/2 sensor. What you have is a heater circuit problem anyway. To test you verify power and ground arriving at the sensor but it's usually the same power supply for both sensors so chances are good that the sensor has a burned out heater.
