1997 Ford Crown Victoria Vic Starts Idles Well Attemp Put Drive Revesrse Dies

my crown vic starts and idles well. but when I attemp to put in in drive or revesrse, it dies. I then put it back in park and it will only start if I floor the accerator and use pressure on accelerator, while foot on brake to take off, then it runs fine.
