transmission slipping on 97 areostar van

97 van all wheel drive worked well for a couple months of ownership .then it started to slip when going up hill in down shift mode,it is getting worse now reverse quit working all together .can this problem be solved by getting a service done on the tranny or do i need to replace the unit .i await your answer thankyou

Check the transmission fluid level and condition. It should be red or pink, not brown. And it shouldn't smell burned.
