difficulty when engaging clutch while engine running

I just put a new clutch in my 97 eagle talon tsi the clutch is really hard to push in and its like its not engaged all the way it wont go in gear when its running but when I put it in gear then start it with the clutch all the way in it pulls itself

Check the clutch master cylinder and the clutch slave -adjust for free play and pedal height
