How do I fix the shifting in my truck?

I replaced the transmission in my 1997 dodge 1500 and now when I shift it neutral is in between neutral and drive, drive is between drive and second, etc. Any ideas how I can fix this. The transmission came from a 1997 dodge with a 318 engine my truck has 360. It's an automatic

Check the steering column linkage and the manual gear linkage on the transmission
