My water pump on my car failed. So I changed out the pump and timing belt. The car didn't start. I checked the compression and I only have compression on #1 cylinder. I think the timing is off. My question is, should I get cylinder compression on all 4 cylinders epithet though my timing is off? Or did I bend my valves

if the motor is out of time then you will have low or no compression on any cylinders.due to the valves being open at the wrong time.i can't say if you have bent anything or not.try to time it again but this time turn the motor over 2 full revalutions and make sure that the marks still line up before you try to start it.

so what I am understanding is that if the timing is off; I can have the correct compression in the #1 cylinder and no compression on the other 3, and the possability of my valves not bent at all? I paid a person to swap out the timing belt and water pump which resulted in a no start condition. I have no spark at the coil pack(which is brand new) which would tell me that the timing is off. The car ran before the timing belt was swapped. Would you please send me the instructions on how the replace the timing belt correctly so i can re-do it myself. I had another mechaninc look at the car, which came up with the comprssion test and told me that my valves are bent without even looking to see if the timing was off or not. Which i told him I believe the timing is off. But, he his convinvced that the valves are bent. so before I pull the head i would like to re-do the timing. Please answer; followed by the correct directions to re-do the timing belt. 1997 dodge stratus 2.4 liter dohc. thanks so much...
