I have a 1997 dodge neon 5 speed and when I shift gears there is a loud grinding noise. What should I do? We put new rubber bushings on the shifter cable right under the gear shifter. Please let me know asap somebody. I have to haul my nephew around.

This problem before or after the bushings?

Could it be that clutch components are worn/ broke/ need fluid/ need bleeding?

What about checking your Clutch Master Cylinder or Slave Cylinder for internal leaking down (either component bad), external leaking, or air in the system? Or even just low on fluid?
