problem...steering wheel not shaking bad but its got about 3 inches of play moving from left to right when driving(speeding up or braking causes no change the same thing still happens)

I'd safely raise and support the front of vehicle, Make sure functional e-brake is set and block the read wheels. Shake the front wheels on either side. If there is any slack, find where it is coming from. Maybe a problem with rack & pinion?
