Do you know where I can find step by step instructions to rebuild a distributor for a 1997 dodge avenger 2.5 v6?

See the dealer to buy the factory service manual. Haynes and Chilton manuals typically don't cover such involved things. That will spell out the steps, with pictures, for any procedure that parts are available for. The camshaft position sensor is available. Other parts such as bushings may not be. Chrysler distributors give such little trouble, you might be better off just finding one in a salvage yard.

You can also find service manuals on eBay.
