i have a 97 chrysler lhs. what makes the motor rev up for no reason and hesitate while driving?

Most common cause is a vacuum leak. When the engine is still cold, use a spray bottle to spray water on the vacuum hoses and intake manifold gaskets. Look for places you can see water getting sucked in or areas that make the engine slow down momentarily.
