When I insert the key into the ignition switch, it won't turn to let me start the truck. It seems to be locked. Is this an ignition switch problem, or possibly a n old worn key problem? Would 100 degree heat have anything to do with this issue?

You may have pressure on the lock from the wheels being turned. Try jerking the wheel back and forth why trying to turn the key. If that doesn't work, then yes, you have a lock and tumbler problem.
