I have a 1997 chevy silverado k1500 4 wheel drive 5.7 liter engine. We had replaced the universal joint 3 times & it had chewed up the universal joints & has thrown the drive shaft twice, my father in law who is a mechanic said that it was coming from the transmission. Would the whole transmission do this or something within the transmission?

Typically from a worn rear rubber transmission mount. Also, if you have a two-piece drive shaft with a carrier bearing in the middle, you might suspect the mount for that bearing is letting the assembly move sideways under moderate acceleration.
