what is the proper way to bleed a coolant system on a 1997 chevy lumina

my car runs hot one day fine the next that is why i want to bleed the systems.

the motor is 3100 sfi v6

there is a bleeder valve on the heater hose connection at the top of the motor. it has a 7 mm screw you just loosen to allow the air to escape.
