97 lumina stuck in drive

1997 lumina- I was driving it the other day and everything was fine. I went to put it in park and the shifter on the steering column was completely stuck. i was not able to put it in park. with some tinkering i was able to get the shifter in park, but the car is still in drive. what is my cars problem?

You have an issue with the shifter linkage. Open the hood and identify where the linkage attaches to the transmission. Have a helper move the shifter so you can inspect what is happening. You could have something bent, disconnected...
