I have a 1997 chevy cavalier that the brake lights do not work, the left tail light is out, and the tail lights stay on after I have shut the car off. When all of this started the cruise control went out as well. Is this a major problem?

As far as the tail lights, I would start by checking the brake light switch itself. It is located at the top of the brake pedal. Check to make sure it is working properly. Chances are that is what is causing the brake lights to stay on. As far as the CC, if the system thinks the brakes are on (bad switch), it won't work.
