I have a 1997 Cadillac Deville recently I was told that I needed to replace the left sway bar link at a cost of $207. I have no indication of problems and they didn't show me the defective part when they had it on the lift for the oil change. The car has 70,000 miles. Is there any way I can check this before I have them put it in to be sure it needs to be done.

Boy, they must be pretty proud of that part. The typical anti-sway bar link for an expensive one on a Chrysler product is $60.00 plus half an hour installation time. The common outer anti-sway bar bushing for a '95 and older Caravan is ten bucks and ten minutes to replace it.

We all know GM products cost a lot to repair but in this case I would get a second opinion and have them show you what is wrong with it. It could be nothing more than deteriorated rubber inserts. Replacement could be justified but not necessary.
