will a bad heater core make your car idle up on its on an cut off ?

yesterday it drove fine after i put new intake gasket and vale cover gaskets and a tune up. I would say driving for like 30 mins or so the front window kept fogging up then i notice a puddle of coolant on the passenger side floor . i got back home started my back up an it idled up on its on an cut off but starts right up everytime.oh yea and i was smelling burnt coolant

if your low on coolant, this can effect engine performance. did engine get HOT from low coolant?
