1997 bmw asc console light is on and car will only go into 2nd gear.
What can I do?

These might be issues that are not related. I recommend setting an apointment with your BMW service provider straightaway as the sophistication of the car when it comes to the Automatic Stability Control system requires special equipment for diagnosis and problem resolution. It might be some problem in the communication BUS that is triggering this issue as well and a proper diagnosis will be needed.
