The radiator may have been your original problem but the subsequent overheating it caused has likely led to a blown head gasket. You need to have chemical tests done to confirm that.

1997 would have it be a 528i. It is likely a failed cylinder head casting, when overheated they crack, I have a source for a replacement cylinder head complete.
