When driving down the road the alarm will just go off, and the only way I can stop it is to stop get out and put key in drivers side door lock and turn the key. It turns it off but will happen again. What could be the cause of this?

Broken wires in the door jam... open the door and move the accordion boot at the door jam. Look for broken wires. Do the same at all doors. If no broken wires are found, then you need to check the Alarm module according to the VW Tech sheet.

Electrical problem
1998 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

For the past several years I've had problems with my alarm system in my Jetta. The alarm will set itself when the passenger window is rolled up or down a couple of times, when the drivers side window is rolled down on a very hot day, and sometimes for no reason at all. I just want the alarm system OUT of my car. I don't need it. How would I get the alarm system out? Thanks for your help!

If you're looking for a home security system . They give you a free complete comparison of the various home alarm system providers in the US and you can choose one based on the size of your home, your requirements, budget etc.

Most likely the lock cylinder is broken on the driver's side.
The repair/update kit should be available at the dealer.

You can not simply disconnect alarm or else the vehicle will not start and run. More than likely you have a faulty door latch. try opeing doors and see if any of the doors dont turn lights on when door is opened. The car may see a door closed when it is in fact open or the other way around and this will cause alarm to activate. have also seen trunk latch and hood latch cause this.

Hi azamora619,

Thank you for the donation.

The symptom indicates a malfunction in the anti-theft and a scan tool is required to go into diagnostics to determine the cause. It could be a faulty control module or the signal from the door lock is not being transmitted to the alarm control module.

Is this a North American model Jetta?

What is the issue? Have you already checked for broken wiring?

I can tell you how to disconnect it, but I need more info.

The keys are not being recognized... you'll have to let the VW Dealer re-adapt the keys to the Immobilizer.

The alarm module is behind the instrument panel (behind & below the headlight switch).

For Testing Purposes:

You can disconnect the 2 harness plugs that are attached to it (to stop the drain and so that you can do pin-out tests).

The engine will not crank when the two harness plugs are disconnected!

For more information (pin-out tests & which wires to bridge so your starter will work)... I will wait for your reply.
