Loud popping noise from air filter housing

When under load or when high revving there is a loud popping noise coming from the air filter I presume the noise is from the intake manifold any ideas as to what could be causing it please

We have no info for this car but check for a vacuum leak and a intake or exaust valve not opening.

Thanks for that do I check the valves by taking the rocker cover off? How do I check for a vacuum leak and where?

Ya take the cover off to see if they are all working or look like they are. Best way to check for a vacuum leak is make sure all your vacuumlines are on and have no holes in them. Then get some choke cleaner and spray around intake connections. If idle goes up or down you've found the leak.
