When I start my engine it idle a bit high about 1400rpm

Dear sirs, I own a toyota mark 2 1996 but when I put it on drive and step on the gas pedal it dies can you please tell me what's the problem

when I put my car on drive and give a little gas it's sputter and then it turn off can u please tell me what's the problem?
