96 Toyota Camry backup lights

Backup lights on 96 Toyota Camry will not come on while in reverse unless shift tower is held back just a little but when you let go they go out again

See if your neutral safety switch is adjustable. Or maybe it's your shift cable itself that needs a slight adjustment?
