96 Subaru Legacy Wagon, with AWD - with only 96K miles - transmission shudders due to transfer clutch problem, according to Subaru technician. Any experience with this? Any problem driving with it? Any fix for it that doesn't cost thousands?

Find one in a junkyard and replace it yourself. Buy a $20 Haynes or Chilton's manual for your car and repair it yourself.

There is no way to know what damage, if any, driving it will cause without seeing what is damaged and how badly damaged it is.
