1996 subaru impreza won't shift out of park. could it be shift selonoid and if is how hard is it to replace.

Check the brake lights first. If the brakes lights are not working due to a faulty brake switch or blown fuse, you would not be able to move out of park.
The interlock shift soleanoid is under the console and you have to remove it replace the solenoid.

There should be a little hole next to the shifter i use a pen and push down inside the hole then u should be able to shift out of park. Just in case u get stuck one day.
