I have a 1996 Olds Cutless 3.1 engine with a faultyPCM module. The problems started with a random misfireing. When the mechnic started trouble shooting the problem he came up with the EGR not operating correctly in its reading with the PCM. It was reading at 0 percent. When he open up the module with me there it look brand new. There was it any signs of corrosion burnt wires are any outside indication of damage. Is it still possible that the PCM is internally damage. He was saying that the repair would be costly in the price of $500 or more. Is the price to repair a 17 year old car worth it. Thanks Victor Marshall

As far as repairing it, it is really based on the condition of the car and if you want to keep it. And yes, there could be a problem in the circuit board that you can't see.
