1996 Oldsmobile Ciera Car 3100 Engine That Starts Hard Starter Turn

Car has 3100 engine. The problem is that is starts hard, starter has to turn over quite a few times before it will start. When the car has been sitting for a very long time....days it will start right up. I changed the fuel filter which did not help. What else could be cousing this problem ?

How long since overall tune-up? Are there any applicable trouble codes? When the problem occurs, have a helper crank it, while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs. If you have spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure.

Just to add, not only check for correct fuel pressure, see if fuel pressure will hold for a bit, with everything off?
