1996 Oldsmobile Aurora water pump; how do I get the O ring to stay in place while seating water pump?

Sometimes what I do is put a small skimming of white thread sealer in the groove then set the O-ring in there, usaully keeps it in place while mounting it.

I did not notice any grove, is it on the pump or inside the housing the pump goes into? Thanks so much for your help!

If I remeber right it is in the housing, the thread sealent acts as a lube when inserting and turning the water pump into place.

Well it was not the water pump :( looks like either head gasket or heads, tired EVERYTHING else. I have a chance to trade it for a 1995 Chevy 1500 pu so I suppose I better. Lol, thanks for the help.
