When cruising at approximately 75 -90 km per hour the engine continually surges for a few seconds at a time with an increase of 2-400 RPM. It does not appear to do this at idle or while under acceleration. Thus far I have changed the spark plugs (which seemed ok) with no change.

You may have contaminated fuel, check the filter as a precaution anyway, are thete any codes set, check for vacuum leaks as well.

Never thought about contaminated fuel as this has been going on for a few weeks. Have switched to 95 octane fuel. No codes or warning lights, no vacuum leaks. Have cleaned the MAS sensor and added some injector cleaner to the fuel.

Sounds very fuel related, do not take anything for granted, re check filter and check fuel sample, if unsure of fuel take a sample to a mechanic for an opinion, also check fuel rail pressure.
