About a year ago I installed a subwoofer in my car; amp included. It's worked perfectly fine up until recently. About 6 weeks ago, when having the volume close to Maximum my speakers began cutting on and off while the subwoofer kept sounding (this never happened before). The problem was corrected 2 days after I added water to the battery to bring the levels up to par. Now the problem is back. I check the levels and they are still up to par. I'm thinking it's the battery. I'm wondering if my diagnoses is correct and if not what else may I do to correct the problem?

Get the charging rate tested. The alternator might not be producing sufficient charge and coupled with a failing battery and the amount of current required for the accessories, you might have to upgrade the alternator and battery to cope.

Do you think that a capacitor might also solve the problem?

That would depend on what was the initial problem. If it is due to insufficient cahrging or a weak battery, the capacitor is not going to help.
