i have a 96 nissan maxima and it shift hard into second gear someone told me it can be the drop resistor but i dont no where thats located

i would forget about that and have the trans checked by a shop. there is so much else that needs to be correct before you go in that direction.
it could be throttle pressure, governor or something internal.

i agree with ASEMASTER6371, get the transmission hard systems checked first, simple line pressure test will show up a lot and a live data read of transmission electrics are the first place you need to go, just changing parts hoping to fix a problem is false economy, you need to get a correct diagnosis first.
