The clutch could be worn out or has failed from being oil soaked. Oil saoking usualy occurrs whn the rear pan seal or rear main seal fails and coats the clutch in oil until its Torque Grabbing or Clamping capability is ruined.
The lower gears, 1, 2, 3 are harder on the drivetrain to pull due to Inertia and require more torque and thusly require the clutch to be able to be able to hold or clamp a higher torque load. Higher gears require less torque, until speeds of over 100+ MPH, due to Intertia as once a large weight is moving it tends to stay moving. So gears like 3, 4 and 5th do not generally require the same torque load on the clutch and it can hold the ;lower load and keep it clamped without slipping.
This won't last for long though, if this is the case, as it will slip in all ghears rather quickly once it starts to slip.
