1996 Mercedes Benz 320sl Allowed Battery Completely Flat Now Cannot Open Trunk

I allowed my battery to go completely flat and now cannot open the trunk (boot) to get in and take out the rear mounted battery for a full recharge. The trunk (boot ) lock used to open manually and in fact did last time this happened but now I cannot get it to open == Any ideas please. Thanks

There will be either key access or an emergency release from the inside somewhere.

You can always apply power from the connections under the hood too.
