Used to driving a 22r Toyota. Got in a 5speed 1996 b2300 and felt like the acceleration was really weak. Is this normal, or is there something wrong with the engine. Motor sounds very smooth, no other problems. Car has 90,000K

How long does it take to get up to 60mph on a flat road with the bed empty?

I have to press the gas all the way to the floor to make sixty. Get to forty or fifty in 10 seconds, sixty takes another 5.

That does sound a little under powered.
Will it rev up ok if you are in neutral? If it won't I'd first check for a clogged cat.

I test drove it today and want to buy it for $2600. Otherwise one of the better values I've come across, just don't want any big engine suprises. I didn't check it on the revs in neutral. What kind of stuff clogs a catalytic. It's possible car got flooded in Katrina. But everything looks really good except for the acceleration. Thanks for your advice. What do you think?

Well, you can buy a fancy tool. Or do it the getto way yo check for a clogged cat.
But you haven't checked to see if you can rev the engine up with it in neutral yet.

1. Unscrew the O2 sensor that is between the engine and the cat.
1A. Attach the gauge to the port and start the engine, make note of the pressure reading.
1B. With the O@ sensor out, start the engine and see if you can rev it up.
