I own a 1996 Lexus LS400 that was stolen recently. The car was returned, however, a coke or some very sticky drink was spilled and the gear shifter sticks badly when taking it out of Park. How do I remove the console around the gear shifter so I can get the mess cleaned up?

Look on the sides for small plugs/covers. Under those you should find some screws. If the console is full length, you may have to move the seats around and look in the rear of the console, also.
