Try starting the car with the lights on. Observe the lights while turning the key to START. If they go out or dim significantly, the battery is weak and should be charged (many auto parts stores will recharge your battery for free).
If not, try tapping on the started with a hammer or other suitable object while an assistant holds the key in the START position. If the engine now cranks over, you have a faulty started.
If not, clean the battery cable and check both cable for tightness and cleanliness of the connections at both ends of each battery cable.
