1996 cherokee synchronizing hub

dealing with a 1996 jeep Cherokee transfer case, bought used and curious to know if the synchronize hub is one piece or should have 3 breaks, we think someone replaced it with the wrong part and cannot figure out what's wrong

syncro hub has three sets of groves seperated by open space
