Serpentine Belt just started sqeeling and generator light is coming on. Belt appears a bit loose. Can I tighten the belt? How? Sat for a year or more and has some very rusty bolts. Any suggestions?

I need to know what engine it has and if it is a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. Check the power steering pump. That is where the adjustment for the belt is located. You need to loosten the pump and there is an adjustment bolt on the bottom side of the pump. NOT EASY TO GET TO, BUT CAN BE DONE.

Let me know if this helps or the engine and model of the vehicle. If it doesn't have PS, it has an automatic tensionier and that will need replaced.

Let me know.
