Why is the steering harder then usual on my 1996 Honda civic hatchback dx?

are you feeling weaker? maybe the belt is slipping? any noises or lack of noises to account for it? fluid level is ok? any recent events or work done to account for it? you could have someone operate steering while you watch/listen under hood?
