what are the symptom tests for 1996 thunderbird anti-theft alarm. mine randomly goes off

sometimes the alarm goes off for no apparent reason

Use a multimeter to test the door and other switches. Check resistance of the switches while wiggling them. It shouldn't vary.

When the system resets, does it beep or chirp to inform you of the violated zone?
