I have a 1996 ford ranger that I recently had the AC serviced on. Sometimes it will come on and work usually when you first start the vehicle in the morning. I noticed after tinkering with it that if I turn it on and tap the front of the clutch with a screwdriver handle it will work. When I leave for work in the mid morning and it does come on it will work for about two or three miles and stop.

Well, honestly I have not even thought to check the pressure. Would I check the suction or discharge or other and what would I be looking for approximately. Also would this be at an idle or higher R.P.M. THX.

You need to check both sides, and use an appropriate duel manifold gauge set, this is best left to a specialist in A/C do not attempt to add extra refregrant just to see if it help, there is a specific charge added and over charged is as bad as under charged.
