I have a 96 dodge dakota and replaced the starter and I am still getting grinding sound most of the time. It will start every so often. I had the old starter checked and it came back good. Any Ideas?

With starter out did you check flywheel teeth? You will have to rotate crank to check them all. And is your starter using shims for proper alignment? Misalignment(tight engagement)can make starter drive spin and not engage but just rub on flywheel teeth making noise but not starting and possibly damaging teeth on flywheel.
